En español - El Centro Carter felicita a Colombia por el histórico acuerdo de paz
ATLANTA — Cartercongratulates the people of Colombia on the historic agreement announced today that will bring an end to a 50-year civil war between the government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – People’s Army (FARC-EP).
“Generations of Colombians have lived under the shadow of war in their country,” said former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. “The courageous efforts of President Juan Manuel Santos and his former adversaries to bring about this peace accord offer hope for a more secure and prosperous future for Colombians who are choosing peace.”
Carterhas ongoing projects in Colombia on issues related to the peace accord — including matters of human rights, the separation of child soldiers from the conflict, and political and electoral reform. We look forward to continuing to work with the government on the accord’s implementation.
