Rosalynn and I are saddened by the passing of former President of Zambia Rupiah Banda. A champion for peace and democracy, President Banda has been a true friend to Carterand has played a critical role in ensuring the peaceful transfers of power within his country. We are fortunate to have had President Banda lead Center election observation efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, and Kenya. His example of waging peace, even in the most challenging times, will be an inspiration for generations to come. My colleagues at Carterand I send our sincere condolences to President Banda’s family and the people of Zambia.
