On June 12, 2014, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter met with CAF representatives at Carterto sign a new framework agreement outlining a CAF pledge to provide $200,000 per year to the Center for up to three years. Enrique Garcia, CAF president and CEO; Andres Rugeles, CAF corporate secretary; and Christian Asinelli, CAF director of institutional development, joined President and Mrs. Carter in Atlanta to formalize the new agreement.
Garcia praised the Carter Center's work in the Americas Region and expressed deep interest in continuing to work alongside the Center to promote a long-term vision for progress in the Americas, emphasizing the importance of political processes and investment.
This new support from CAF will enable the Americas Program to focus on several major themes in this next year, such as electoral reforms and the promotion of better relations between media and government relations, among others.
